King Tutankhamun is an original Serialist mixed media painting by Brent Doty that reimagines King Tutankhamun through a contemporary fine art perspective. Constructed from hand painted, cut & pasted, layered historical, biographical and cultural imagery, and symbolic references this one-of-a-kind artwork bridges ancient Egyptian history with modern.
Brent creates repetition, narrative fragmentation, and visual rhythm to explore mythology, archaeology, and ultimately cultural legacy. This painting functions as a meta-portrait, inviting viewers to engage with the enduring fascination surrounding Tutankhamun, the discovery of his tomb, and the global influence of ancient Egyptian art on modern culture. While simultaneously the artist explored his own personal artistic connection to King Tut.
As a sixth-grade student, Brent Doty spent weeks creating a life-sized coloured-pencil drawing of King Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus. It was the first time in his life he received public accolades and was encouraged to pursue art as a career. The completed drawing was framed and displayed at the Peel Board of Education’s head office. While he has often dreamed of seeing that early work again through adult eyes, Doty recognizes that this moment set him on his creative path. Creating this new painting became a way of revisiting that subject matter—and honouring a pivotal turning point in his life as an artist.
This original contemporary painting is ideal for fine art collectors, corporate collections, interior designers, museums, and luxury condo buyers seeking historically significant, investment-grade artwork. With its strong narrative, museum-calibre execution, and timeless subject matter, Tutankhamun offers both cultural relevance and long-term collectability.
