Artist Biography
Brent Andrew Doty
Brent The Serialist™ is a contemporary Canadian mixed-media artist creating original paintings and limited-edition fine art prints inspired by art history, pop culture, icons, nostalgia, and memory. His work employs repetition and optical variation to construct complex visual narratives that reward both immediate impact and prolonged viewing.
Early in his practice, Brent found himself constrained by the limits of traditional paint and pencil. He was searching for something more—something layered, intricate, and intellectually demanding. Something more.
After years of artistic exploration, he developed Serialism in 2005: a self-created visual language built on repetition, structure, research, and controlled chaos. What began as experimentation evolved into a comprehensive system capable of holding obsession, history, problem-solving, and complexity within a single, unified form.
After nearly two decades of Serialist painting and continual evolution, Brent has come to fully understand—and clearly articulate—the medium he created. Serialism encapsulates his lifelong fascinations into a beautifully complex, universal, and open-ended form of visual communication. Each work is the result of rigorous research, intricate planning, and intentionally messy, labor-intensive processes.
His Artist’s Masterpiece Series reimagines iconic artists and movements through structured visual variation and optical manipulation. Using the Serialist method, Brent produces museum-quality, highly collectible works aimed at serious art lovers and contemporary art collectors. Influenced by Warhol, Picasso, Klimt, Van Gogh, and Lawren Harris, his work has been globally exhibited and is internationally collected.
Looking toward 2026 and beyond, Brent recognizes the full potency of what he has created: a visually complex language that remains universally accessible—an art form uniquely equipped to reflect and process the contradictions of the 21st century. Serialism stands as a distinctly post-modern response to an increasingly image-driven and visually saturated world.
