Vaginal Mary is a one-of-a-kind Serialist painting from Brent Doty’s ongoing Artist’s Masterpiece Series, reimagining one of art history’s most enduring sacred subjects through a contemporary mixed-media lens. Constructed through meticulously layered imagery, symbolic references, and hand-crafted visual fragments, the work transforms the traditional Madonna into a provocative meta-portrait exploring femininity, sexuality, creation, spirituality, and the historical representation of women in Western art.
Through Doty’s signature Serialist process, familiar religious iconography is deconstructed and rebuilt into a densely layered contemporary composition. Historical references coexist with unexpected visual associations, encouraging prolonged viewing and challenging the boundary between reverence and provocation, sacred imagery and the physical body.
Entirely hand-crafted and original, Vaginal Mary is designed for collectors drawn to ambitious, conversation-driven contemporary art. Bold, conceptually layered, and visually commanding, the work functions as both a reinterpretation of art history and a statement piece for sophisticated private collections, contemporary interiors, and distinctive corporate or institutional environments.
